This event aims to integrate Sunshine Coast newcomers and locals by sharing the simple pleasures of preparing traditional recipes, family food secrets, and then coming together to eat.
Bak Kut Teh (also spelt Bah kut teh and abbreviated BKT) means “meat bone tea” in Chinese Hokkien dialect. To be exact, the term “bak“ refers to pork which is commonly used in the broth. It’s a comforting dish that is often enjoyed with yam rice.
This stew is special because of the Chinese herb Dang Gui (Chinese angelica root). Star anise, cloves and smoked garlic make this dish very flavourful. Usually, bak kut teh is served with rice, vegetables and “you tiao“ (sometimes known as Chinese churros).
The origin of Bak Kut Teh is unclear, but it is believed to have been brought from Fuijan, China and to have derived from the Fujianese dish know as niu pai.
In this cooking event, Alan will be leading the participants on how to prepare and cook Traditional Chinese Bak Kut Teh.
