Produce Harvest Time at the Botanical Garden
The large vegetable garden in the Botanical Garden is run by volunteers who plant, tend, and harvest produce for the local Food Bank, donating more than 1000 lbs per year.
Welcoming Communities has been engaged in annual volunteer produce harvesting since last year. This is an activity that creates opportunities to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and promotes interpersonal connections while contributing to the community. Through these interactions, volunteers gain a deeper appreciation of diversity and develop language skills that help them communicate with individuals from different cultures, all while sharing the same passion and gardening skills.

MCK-Traditional Finnish Salmon Soup (Lohikeitto)
Lohikeitto (Finnish), laxsoppa (Swedish), or fiskesuppe (Norwegian) is an easy and comforting Nordic dish, perfect for any season. It is popular in the summer with fresh ingredients from the garden, but also a staple during cold winter nights. This soup is utterly soft and creamy, made with salmon, peas, carrots, potatoes, and plenty of fresh dill! Most often, it is served with rustic rye bread on the side.

Smuggler Cove Hike
NOTE: Meeting/assembly place at Capilano University at 9:45am
A light lunch and ride will be provided. Please register for numbers.
Smuggler Cove Marine Provincial Park features a scenic hiking trail with forest, marsh, and ocean views. The 2-kilometer (4 km round-trip) Smuggler Cove trail can be hiked in about 40 minutes. It includes both gravel paths and boardwalks, but also has some challenging sections with roots, rocks, and stairs.
Get ready for an adventurous hike through the old-growth forest and along the coastline!
Hiking tips:
Wear suitable footwear.
Stay hydrated with water.
Use sunscreen and insect repellent; wear a hat.
Be cautious of pollen if you have allergies.
