The large vegetable garden at the Botanical Gardens is run by volunteers who plant, tend, and harvest produce for the local Food Bank, donating more than 1000 lbs per year.
Since last year, Welcoming Communities has participated in the annual volunteer produce harvest. This activity creates opportunities to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and promotes interpersonal connections while contributing to the community. Through these interactions, volunteers gain a deeper appreciation of diversity and develop language skills that help them communicate with individuals from different cultures, all while sharing the same interest in gardening skills.
One of the key impacts of volunteering is the strengthening of community bonds. When people from different cultures come together to work toward a common goal, they learn to appreciate each other’s differences and discover shared values. This is what Sunshine Coast Welcoming Communities is committed to. Join us to learn gardening skills, meet new friends, and connect with the community.
