International Sushi Day

International Sushi Day celebrates this delicious meal and it’s your opportunity to explore this cuisine and all it has to offer.

Sushi has become a global phenomenon. Raw fish didn’t initially sound appetizing to all cultures, but we eventually realized that we were wrong and now we can’t get enough of it.

Here are some ways to celebrate International Sushi Day:

1-    Have a sushi day

Go to your local sushi restaurant and enjoy a sushi prepared by a professional sushi chef. Listen to the chef's suggestions and try something new.

2-    Make your own sushi

Watch a Youtube video and try making sushi yourself. You'll need a rice cooker, a rice paddle, a bowl of water, a bamboo mat, a sharp knife, and the ingredients for the type of sushi you’re making. It takes concentration and commitment, but the finished product is well worth it. So, it is not going to taste anywhere near the standard of a proper sushi chef, but it is always fun to have a go, right? But You never know, one of you might be a super chef in the making!

3-    Watch a sushi documentary

The documentary "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" is available on Netflix. It’s the story of the world's greatest sushi chef, 85-year-old Jiro Ono, and it received high praise from critics and viewers alike.

4-    Introduce a friend to the delicacy

Many people turn their nose up and screech ‘ewwwww’ at the thought of eating what they (wrongly!) perceive as a slimy raw fish dish, but why not try taking your bestie along to a restaurant and see if you can sway their thinking a little? You might want to persuade them to try the beginner-friendly Philadaphia roll, made up of Salmon, avocado, and cream cheese.

Why should you celebrate International Sushi Day?

The Taste: The possibilities are endless. Create your own combos of seafood, veggies, seasoning, and sauces and have your sushi your own way.

It’s very healthy: It's difficult to get much healthier than raw fish and veg. The rice maybe isn’t the healthiest food in the world, but the carbs in it will give your body the energy it needs. Than, you have a healthy winner.

Coolness: When it comes to cool food, sushi is the king of cool. It epitomizes a combination of tradition and modern, making it the hippest fishy dish around.

Variety: You'll never get bored as there are a plethora of things you can choose with sushi. Even if you don't love everything on the menu you will find something that tastes great. For extra flavor and spice, use soy and wasabi to dip your food in.

You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy sushi, which is kind of the same thing.
